Spring Region Meeting Minutes

La Feria HS, 5/16/09

 

ATSSB Region 15/28 President, Eddie Benitez called the meeting to order.

 

I.          State Business

            a.         Class A representative nominations/no nominations

            b.         Class AAA representative nominations/no nominations

            c.         New Hotel for State ATSSB convention-Hyatt Regency

            d.         New Jazz procedures…judging panels spread throughout state regions

 

II.        OPS

            a.         Instructions for submission

                        1.  be a member

                        2.  recording must be from or a pre-approved contest

                        3.  deadline is May 20, 2009

                        4.  forms available on ATSSB website

 

III.       Region 15/28 Calendar

            a.         ATSSB Jazz Auds….9/17/2009

                        1.  discussion of hiring our own engineer rather than recording with 5A/4A. 

What is more cost effective? Allen Clark recommended to make All-State Recordings. 

                        2.  Mr. Lozano made motion to use SAME GUY (La Joya) as used last year,

but keep audition & recording session on the same day.  Mr. Barrera second motion. 

                        3.  Motion Passed.

            b.         HS Region

                        1.  Hosted at Rio Hondo HS…December 5, 2009

            c.         ATTSB All-Sate Auditions…January 9, 2010-Orange Grove

            d.         JH Region/Region Band Tryouts…January 16 2010-La Feria JH/HS

            e.         Region Band Concert…January 21-23 2010

                        1.  Motion made to continue using Donna HS.

                        2.  Motion Passed

            f.          TMEA convention. Feb 10 – 13 2010-San Antonio

            g.         Clinicians will be voted on and FAXED to Mr. Benitez

 

IV.       Old Business

            a.         will meet over summer to discuss region rules

 

V.        New Business

            a.         Honorarium proposed for Region Coordinator

                        1.  Motion made to offer new region coordinator an honorarium in the amount of $200

to be paid at the end of each school year. 

2.      Mr. Lozano added that early arrival to convention should be paid by region to cover

region coordinators added expenses.  Mr. Benitez added comments & agreed that state

ATSSB office suggests that region should cover additional monies.

                        3.  Second by Mr. Lozano

                        4.  Motion Passed

            b.         Election of NEW Region 15/28 coordinator

                        1.  Mr. Benitez nominated

                        2.  nominations closed

                        3.  Mr. Benitez accepts nomination & will remain!!  YAY!

            c.         Election of NEW Region 15/28 JH coordinator

                        1.  Mr. Noyola clarified the responsibilities

                        2.  Veronica Bazaldua volunteered to accept the post..!!   YAY!!

            d.         Mr. Lozano asked about All-Region organizers

                        1.  Region got rotation. Mr. Benitez will post rotation on website

            e.         Don’t forget to keep up membership of ATSSB.

                        1.  fees lower before October 1st.

            f.          Updating ATSSB software my add an extra expense

            g.         Rio Hondo ISD hosting a USSBA contest on Oct 3rd
